Kill Bill: 3 reasons why you NEED to watch it

Quentin Tarantino’s film (well, films), Kill Bill is MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE MOVIE. (I can’t just say “film” as there is a Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.)

And here’s why it’s my favorite.

Number One: UMA THURMAN

***Cue Fall Out Boy Song***

Uma Thurman is so powerful in her role as “The Bride.” Her acting is so honest, it makes you believe in her, and root for her as well. In Kill Bill, Uma Thurman is the definition of BADASS.

BADASS

noun: UMA THURMAN

“The Bride” spits on Budd, even though she knows she will probably die by his hand.

Uma was a feminist icon in the early 2000s, so she deserves snaps for that.

Number two: THE VISUALS

A grisly image of “The Bride” at the beginning of Kill Bill Vol. 1

Kill Bill is a very stylistic film, while still being a film that can be enjoyed by a wide audience.

The images within the film are captivating, and they keep any viewer on the edge of their seat.

The most gory of images are shown in black and white, allowing people who get queasy at the sight of blood to still be able to watch. However, the black and white sequences have a deeper meaning than that. According to the Kill Bill IMDb trivia page:

“The black-and-white photography in the Crazy 88 fight scene is known as a homage to ’70s and ’80s U.S. television airings of kung fu movies. Black and white (as well as black and red) was used to conceal the shedding of blood from television censors. Originally, no black-and-white photographic effects were going to be used (and in the Japanese version, none are), but the MPAA demanded measures be taken to tone the scene down. Tarantino used the old trick for its intended purpose as well as an homage.”

The film is so stylistic, I cannot address everything in this post (keep an eye out for more posts about specific aspects of Kill Bill).

Number three: THE SOUNDTRACK

Everyone knows Ironside as it’s been memed to hell and back. The usage of it in this film is perfect.

And my personal favorite in Kill Bill Vol. 2:

There you have it! Three short reasons why you should watch Kill Bill.

I do plan on doing more specified and longer posts in the future.
